Ground Hog Report Department:
All the major rodent-predictors came up and saw their shadows. Legend says that’s a predictor of an early spring. Sources did not comment on whether that also means the beasts have joined with the Global Warming crowd. On a related subject, David Suzuki is embarking on a 30 day cross-Canada tour to raise awareness of environmental issues. He’s also now drinking tap water rather than the bottled variety.
By the way, if you don’t really trust the groundhogs, watch for the Leafs to be out of the playoffs: A sure sign of spring.
Making a Difference Department:
Some names you will not see in the headlines or on the late news this week are touching lives and making a huge difference in their own little corner of the planet. Young Daniel listened intently to your humble servant this week. He did so without judgement, and as a true friend. In among his own challenges is his mother’s serious health issues, to which he is also devoting a big chunk of his vacation time.
Rick continues to feed a bunch of people who likely would not otherwise get a hot meal into them. He does so without fanfare, nor recognition of any kind. Just because it’s the right thing to do.
Jackie extended a hand of kindness to a fellow traveller this week. Also without fanfare or public recognition.
Susan runs a wee gathering of senior-folks that allows them to talk about anything, in an atmosphere of safety and support. Subjects run the gamut, and always teach everyone in the room something – often about themselves, and the gifts they bring to each other, just by being who they are. Classic Zen – “We are all students and we are all teachers.”
Four people going about the business of serving, in the small ways that make a big difference in the lives of others.
W&W asks: And what will you do, today, to make your chunk of the universe a little nicer to be in?
Drama in Real-Life Department:
In an historic move, current court proceedings involving Stephen Truscott are being broadcast live via the CBC website. Given that most of our knowledge of such things is created by TV-drama it’s a fascinating close-up look at what really happens in court.
Super Bowl Comment Department:

The cost of just one commercial in the annual homage-to-excess could do a lot to fix much of the lingering heartache in New Orleans.
