Thanks For Your Concern Department:
W&W was missing-in-action for a few days, and many of you noticed. We took a wee hiatus to handle a major project at W&W World Headquarters. Thanks for your notes and concerns.
Colonel Pope Department:
KFC has asked Pope Benedict XVI to bless it’s new menu-offering. A sandwich, named Fish Snacker, is to be on the menu during Lent, and the fast food chain wants an endorsement from the Boss-guy at the Vatican. No word on a response from the Pontiff. The sandwich comes with tartar sauce and is served on a sesame seed bun: That alone ought to be enough to qualify for a blessing.
Assorted Ramblings Department (Comments welcome at: alan.speak@yahoo.ca)
For perhaps the first time in human history we have the capability to feed the entire planet, and yet thousands of kids will go to bed hungry tonight, and thousands more will die of malnutrition. One of the famous-for-being-famous crowd wore a $25,000.00 dress to the Oscars, and that doesn’t include the trinkets. Somehow, that’s just wrong!
How come we can talk to people in space, send information and millions of dollars around the globe in nano-seconds, see Wolf Blitzer talking from any country in the world, but the phone company cannot move an existing phone number two miles outside city limits?
If the dog eats and drinks anytime after 8:00pm she wants to go out at 3:00am. If she does not eat or drink after 8pm she wants to go out at 3am. It’s very quiet in this neighbourhood at 3am. And these days, cold. The dog goes immediately back to sleep; no such luck for your Intrepid Reporter, who has discovered some very strange television programs on at 3am.
Scoville Heat Units Department:
Bhut Jolokia is hot. Really hot. In case you missed this in Grade 10 biology, Scoville Heat Units are used to measure a chili’s heat-level. Bhut Jolokia checks in at more than a million of aforementioned units. By comparison, the average jalapeno measures about 10,000. Paul Bosland, a New Mexico professor, will enter Guiness records for having eaten one of these brutes. No word on how much water the lad consumed after the first taste. Perhaps he’ll also be in Guiness for most water consumed in 30 seconds.
