Vol. II No. 19

Update on the Skunk Department:
Dorothy-the-travelling Skunk is home in California. A great story that involved a whole lot of people doing some good things, for no other reason than it was the right thing to do. A good lesson in what can happen when a group of like-minded folks come together in a common-cause. For a list of those who helped, check National Post article. Break-with-Tradition Department:
For as long as anyone can remember, newspaper editorials appeared without attribution. That’s about to change at Sun Media. Effective immediately, Sun editorials will be signed by the writers. Interesting. Now, if you disagree with a comment, you will know to whom to express your opposition, rather than the semi-anonymous “Dear Editor”.

Child-time vs. Adult-time Department:
Kids understand two time-frames: Now, and NOT now. As adults, we are supposed to understand a concept called “deferred gratification”, but many of us don’t. Bombarded by media messages that extol the virtues of consumer goods and services, we cave to the pressure, and accumulate “stuff”. In a terrific message I heard on the weekend, the speaker asked a question our parents probably asked, but we have forgotten in an age of easy credit: Do you need it or want it? Perhaps a virtue we would all do well to cultivate is “Learn how to wait.”

Things that Don’t Work Department:
Putting air in a tire ought not to be a challenge, but for reasons-unknown, five service stations visited by your Intrepid Reporter yesterday had “Out of Order” signs on their air machines. Frustrating at the best of times, the project was made all-the-more aggravating by the vicious cold, and the fact many of the aformentioned pieces of equipment now charge a fee (allegedly a donation to charity). Inquiring Minds wonder how Grandfather would have reacted to paying for air. Probably the same way he would react to buying water in a bottle.
