Vol.II No. 30

Is it Mom’s Fault? Department:
Prince William and Kate Middleton have split. Royal-watchers and the Royal-obsessed Brit media suggest it’s the nice lady’s mother who may be at the route of the relationship troubles. Seems mom does not fit well in the higher circles of the aristocratic class-system. She greeted the Queen somewhat informally, and then asked about the “loo”. Just not done. “We were not amused”.

Parenting-skills Department:
Given current trends, look for Alex Baldwin to sign up for a parenting-therapy program soon. The actor’s phone-message rant to his daughter went public, and it re-defines the word “nasty”. Needless-to-say, he released a “sorry-statement” on his web site, but the damage has been done, and therapy will likely be the next step of contrition. Inquiring Minds (I.M.) wonder how the tape got released and on the net. Could it be anything to do with the on-going custody battle between Alex and Kim? Hmmmm! As is often the case, the kids become the weapon-of-choice, and suffer the impact of the adults’ anger at each other.

For Sale Sign on the Phone Company Department:
As noted here a couple of weeks ago, a denial is often a good sign that something is, in fact, afoot. After denials a short time ago, BCE announced a sale is in the works for the giant corporation. The original press release mentioned there were “no on-going talks” regarding a sale. I.M. wonder how BCE communications people define “on-going-talks”.

Call It What It Is Department:
Regular readers of W& W will recall previous comment that “suicide bombers” are actually “homicide bombers”. The primary purpose of such an act is to kill other people. The death of the perpetrator is the method, not the principal goal. Your Intrepid Reporter is now on a mission to educate media on this thought, and to encourage a change in the language of reports, so the reality is acknowledged. If you agree, send an email message to media folks and tell them.
