Scrap These Words Department:
Lake Superior State University published its annual list of words/phrases that ought to be banished. Some notables that made this year’s offerings:
Awesome
Now playing in theatres (Inquiring Minds ask “Where else?”
Ask your doctor
Combined names of celebs, such as TomKat and Brangelina
Gone missing (as if that’s a place you can actually go. Hmm!)
W&W humbly suggests we add:
At the end of the day
Going forward, and it’s cousin, “moving forward”
And from recent television newscasts: “Here’s what’s making news right now” (would you rather hear what was making news yesterday? Hmm!)
A spokesperson for _______ (do these people not have names?)
Television reporters who constantly thank each other. (as in “thanks for that report”)
At this point in time (that would be NOW)
Cabinet Watch Department:
As predicted by the Ottawa news-hounds Mr. Harper shuffled the Cabinet, and embattled Environment Minister, Rona Ambrose, has moved from her portfolio to less strenuous activities. No doubt global warming will come to an end now a new minister is on the case. Jason Kenney was sworn in as secretary of state for multiculturalism and Canadian identity. We eagerly anticipate his defintion of “Canadian Identity”.
Is it just me, or is there any significance to the number of new appointments that are from Ontario? Can you say: “election strategy”?
Just In Case Department:
In the unlikely event you still care about this, an update on the O’Donnell/Trump spat: The Donald’s 25 year old daughter, Ivanka, got some air time on NBC’s Today Show to defend daddie. Inquiring Minds note the new season of Apprentice begins this weekend and The View’s ratings took a wee hike in recent days. An interesting sidebar to this non-story is The Rosie is on vacation from The View this week and “unavailable for comment”. Vacation??. Already. She’s only had the job for a few weeks.Must have a good agent.
Are You Listening Department:
Here’s a wee test: Take note today of how many people ask “How are you?”. Then observe how many of them actually listen to your answer.
