Conservatives M.I.A. Department:
Years ago a friend told me the “primary function of government is to stay in power.” This principle applies regardless of political stripe. Put that backdrop on the recent budget, and the spending spree is understandable. The alleged-conservatives (a-c) loaded up the gravy train, ran it across the country, and followed that romp with a budget of goodies for almost everyone. Am I the only one who thinks the budget looks more like a liberal-effort than a conservative one? Inquiring Minds (I.M.) wonder how come the “right” is drifting to the left? Refer previous observation: “stay in power!”
Famous-for-being-famous Update:
For those of you eagerly awaiting the latest news on Britney, she’s out of rehab. I.M. note that “rehab” is the latest ploy to avoid personal resonsibility. When in doubt try: “it’s not my fault: I was victimized by drugs, booze or a bad childhood, or I was breast-fed, or I wasn’t breast-fed, or . . . etc etc.” Check-in to rehab, call the publicist.
In a related story, Kevin Federline celebrated his 29th birthday. Did you send a card? Me neither. Worth noting the lad is described in news items as “an aspiring rappper”. And to what might you be aspirng? Me? I’m an aspiring King. Might as well aim high.
When Ego Trumps the Mission Department:
Two items crossed the desk this week that, on the surface, seem unrelated, and yet carry a common theme. The volunteer board of a golf club was under attack by a small group of self-serving members with their own agenda. As is often the case, things turned nasty and personal over an issue that could have been resolved peacefully if the antagonists remembered what the mission of the club is supposed to be. Friend who attended the gathering, commented as he related the details: “I just want to play golf.” Hmmm. Makes sense to me.
The other item concerns a church that’s going through a ton of unnecessary heartache because of a very small group who have a huge axe to grind. Half a dozen folks, who have been carting around aforementioned axe for going on 30 years, decided an otherwise private issue ought to be made public and began a rumour-infested campaign that has escalated into some truly ugly stuff. I.M. wonder if these folks ever ask what the purpose of the Church is supposed to be? They could all quote chapter and verse of Christ’s instruction to “Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, all thy strength and all thy soul: And love one another”. My golfer friend might say: “I just want to love God”. However, translate from “mission to action” and something falls apart.
Golf club or Church, the ego always gets in the way. Love God and Play Golf. How tough is that?
